Charity Golf Stars: Meet Steve Clark

Meet Steve Clark, the Director of Great Golf Events Ltd.

He’s passionate about golf, although claims to be an average golfer.  It has always been an ambition of his to run a golf tournament.

Steve’s inspiration for his first event was following the passing of his Wife’s Grandad in November 2018. He had Dementia, and seeing the rapid decline the disease had on his mental health was heartbreaking for the whole family.

This unfortunate family crisis gave Steve the drive and purpose to get stuck into organising an event in aid of the Alzheimer's Society Charity. He started organising the first event in July 2019 with the golf day being held a few months later. Trying to organise everything from booking the golf course, catering and sponsorship/donations for prizes was harder than Steve expected...not to mention that he actually needed some players to sign up too.

He booked the golf course for 100 people and was pleased to say that they managed to get 77 players and raised just under £1,000.

After the experience of the first event, Steve decided to start organising the 2020 Golf Day in January.  To add to the stresses of trying to put a successful event together, 2020 decided to bring us COVID-19.  Despite uncertain financial times for all, Steve’s tireless work managed to bring in 135 players from a possible 136, along with some fantastic support from local businesses.  In total, Steve raised £3,033.28!

Although 2021 has started in an equally uncertain way, Steve has set himself the challenge of not just 1...but 5 Charity Golf Days, all in aid of the Alzheimer’s Society!!
